Online translation tools and their usefulness on students' autonomous learning of legal English

Abstract


In an increasingly globalized world, legal professionals must navigate complex linguistic "landscapes." Legal translation, a specialized field requiring accuracy, cultural sensitivity, and in-depth knowledge of specific industries, presents unique challenges for learners. As self-study becomes an increasingly popular form of learning, especially in the digital age, both students and professionals are seeking effective methods to master legal translation. One of those methods is using online translation tools. By strategically utilizing these tools, we can significantly enhance students' self-learning efficiency and expand the work capabilities of professionals. However, their effectiveness depends on how they are integrated into students' autonomous learning activities. This article aims to identify the current state of self-study translation activities among students majoring in Legal English at Hanoi Law University, and from there propose practical solutions to improve the effectiveness of self-study legal translation by an intelligent and responsible use of online translation tools. The focus is on combining these tools with learning actively, building personal glossaries, practicing translation, and providing feedback to create an interactive learning environment.
